About Trina

Welcome.

I am the creator of “Young AT Heart” a website is about seniors who are aging with health and grace. This is website is also for them an others that want to learn and get to know about us.

It is now the Spring of 2022 and I am in the first quarter of 2022 and starting my 1st year as a fully retired California Licensed Marriage and Family therapist. Deep down within me I knew that it was time to retire my License. This has been a long process and an emotional decision.

I began my journey to licensure in 1976. One day I woke up and realized that I had a 9-year-old daughter and a 6 year-old son with no means to support them if I lost their waters income through death or disability. I had quit college in my 3 year as a Music/Voice Major when my son was born 6 years before. So I decided to return and finish my general education requirements to become a junior. So after finishing the five remaining classes I chose Human Services as my major with a Minor in Music as I had completed enough units to use as a minor. In the Winter Quarter of 1979 I began as a junior at California State University Dominguez Hills and graduated in June of 1980. At the same time my daughter now 13 was finishing 8th grade and my 10 year old son was finishing the 5th grade. We all graduated the same week in June.

After a two year break  returned to school and entered a Chemical Dependence Certification course then in 1984 I enter a Masters in Counseling Program. I earned my Chemical Dependency Certificate in 1984 and my Masters Degree in 1987. After jumping through many hoops I finished California’s requirements to sit for the Licensing Exam for Marriage and Family Therapy. this included 3000 hours as an intern. I passed my written and Orals in 1990 the first time. I was licensed July 3, 1990 and received my original license on July14 7 days before my 45th birthday.

In August of 1990 I opened my Private Practice. From August 1990-September 2021 I worked with private clients as either individuals, groups or families. I was a Supervisor to many Marriage Family Therapist Associates and Interns. I taught and was the Practicum Filed Coordinator for 10 years at California State University Dominguez Hills in the Maritial and Family Therapist Program. I was chair of the program for a year, this included writing circular for the program that met both University and State Board requirements. Retirement was a process for me. It took me 6 years to fully retire. It began with me retiring from the University System in 2015, then closing my practice 3 years later in 2018 and finally retiring my license this year in 2021.

So here I am in this new phase of life. What am I doing? I am taking each day as it comes with flyable plan for the future. My long term goals are no longer for 5-10 years. They are are for next month or possibly next year. I’m creating articles for my website that reflect what healthy aging includes. What it can be for those of us in our senior stage of life. This website will grow and change as I grow and change. I will continue to share what I Learn. For me that is what keeps my mind healthy.

I can’t wait to meet you and help you understand and connect with others.
